A rooftop scene in the finale (Blair & Chuck).
The foilers said:
Ed Westwick’s character, Chuck, will commit suicide in the finale. Westwick, however, is returning for the final season in some capacity.
Dan and Blair have just broken up. Chuck calls a hurt Blair and asks her to meet him at the top of the Empire State Building. He has an engagement ring and is ready to propose to her. She rushes there, and when she arrives he begins to tell her how he feels. They share a kiss and he begins to pull the ring from his pocket, but just as he does so, Blair receives a call. She asks Chuck to wait and answers it.
On the other end is Dan. Blair is ready to hang up, but Dan begs her to listen. He recites the vows he wrote for Louis. He tells her that contrary to what he said before, he meant every word. He is sorry, is in love with her, and wants to marry her. She begins to cry and turns to Chuck. She tells him she is sorry, and then tells Dan to wait for her at the bottom of the tower. She’ll be there in a minute.
She turns to Chuck and apologizes. She says there was a time for them, and while she loved him in the past, she feels that way about Dan now. Chuck desperately proposes, but Blair turns him down, telling him that he is a good person and will find someone new to share that kind of love with someday. Chuck pockets the ring and smiles. Blair asks if he’ll be OK, and Chuck responds with an eerie calm. He just wants her to be happy, and if being with Dan will bring her that, that is good enough for him. She then leaves to meet with Dan
Dan arrives at the base of the tower but doesn’t see Blair anywhere. He is about to leave when she finally emerges from the building and runs into his arms. They embrace, kiss and tell each other how they feel. Blair tells Dan what happened with Chuck, and Dan is uncomfortable, but Blair assures him that he heart belongs only to him. They kiss again.
At the top of the tower, Chuck removes the ring from his pocket again and smiles. He remembers moments he shared with Blair, then climbs onto the rails and looks out across the city.
At the base, Dan and Blair continue their embrace. Then, down the street, a crash. They both turn and look. Blair walks toward the ruined car slowly, saying “No, no, no…” over and over. Dan says “Oh god.” They rush over to the crowd of people standing around it and break through. Chuck is dead on the roof of the car. Blair screams, then hugs Dan tightly. Dan looks on in horror.
Cut to black.
The production notes call for the last shot of Chuck to be similar to “The Most Beautiful Suicide,” a photograph from LIFE Magazine of a woman in the 40’s who jumped from the Empire State Building (attached), but with him clutching the engagement ring.
